The Nature of Science by E.O. Wilson

The way i view myself as a writer is creative. I really like the idea of having no limits on my writing and taking it to wherever my heart desires. I enjoy to write without no limitations and challenging my brain to come up with the perfect words to put on paper. If it is a topic i truly enjoy and can relate to than i feel i can write for days and be delighted about it.

I have not done much scientific writing in my career. My first impression is that it is very structured and detailed. Everything must be in consistent order with no details missing. I believe writing in this situation can be very difficult at times because if its not 100% in the correct scientific form than the whole thing could be wrong with the potential of losing valuable points.

EO Wilson goes into depth about what makes a good scientist and the proper form of a scientific paper. Wilson claims the ideal scientist “thinks like a poet, works like a book keeper.” He explains you can’t put your imagination or dreams into the paper because scientists are not poets or novelist. This scientific paper must be very clear so in the future scientist could experiment themselves following this method step by step. Wilson talks about how boring the paper can be as you must list everything step by step with the correct grammatically terms. “The results have to be as dry as a tax accountants report.” Results must be very dry and to the point.

One thing that surprised me was the discussion area of the paper. Wilson states that in this section we can write like a poet. We can let our mind free a little bit and bring emotion into it. You’re allowed to express why this is so interesting to you and your ideas for future endeavors.
